Love has its stages and having a recording of each milestone is a pretty cool thing. This engagement session was designed to celebrate Amanda and Jason at the very beginning of their love story. They envision the day when they will share these cherished images with their great grand children 50 years from now! The beauty of an engagement session is we get to record all the enchantment of young love minus all the stress of the wedding day! The mood is relaxed and anticipatory instead of frantic and stressed!
The first time they met at a friend’s party, Jason met Amanda at the door, welcomed her in and then offered to get her a drink. That makes an impression on a woman! Before the end of the night he guided the conversation to one of his passions---the Ravens. He invited her to a Ravens game (as a means to get her number) and she accepted.
Their first date was at Paradiso, known for its authentic Italian food and romantic atmosphere. So, it was only fitting to begin their engagement session there. We even found the table where they shared their first meal together!
Amanda rocked these sweet red heels all night as we walked the streets of Westminster. She has an admitted shoe problem (I can relate and if that's the worst problem you have through life, well, rock on sister!). I said, ‘well the good thing is Jason knows this going into the marriage.” Amanda said, ‘Oh yes and he buys them for me!’ That’s a good man!
After their first dinner date, Jason and Amanda headed to this park where the conversation flowed like wine for the next 2 hours while they got to know one another. They discovered their common interest in wine tasting and walking through historic towns to soak in a bit of what life must have been like 100’s of years ago. Friends had a hand in setting these two up and friends warned Amanda, ‘don’t try to figure him out, he’s just a great guy!’ One friend, Nicole Hunsicker, told Amanda after just 3 weeks of dating him that they were going to get married!
On that first date they walked through downtown Westminster. Amanda has lived in Westminster her whole life and yet on this first date she saw the train come through the town for the first time! What are the odds!? It’s as though everything was lining up to make this night memorable so she’ll be able to look back 50 years from now and tell her great grandchildren about how she met Great Grandpop Jason!
Jason and Amanda dated for a year and a half when at a football game Jason, continually referencing Amanda in conversation with his buddies, was asked---are you going to marry her?” That was it; he knew he was.
Three weeks later he had the evening planned, but as best laid plans often go, this one had some unexpected twists. Friday night is date night, Jason’s pretty insistent about that. Both Jason and Amanda teach 5th grade and Amanda learned earlier that day that one of her students had been diagnosed with cancer. She spent the day distraught and crying over this tragic news.
Jason was persistent though, it was date night and he was taking his girl out. Amanda got suspicious when she realized he had changed and shaved. But not thinking too much about it, they headed to a two hour dinner together at Maggies.
At the close of the meal Jason walked Amanda into the courtyard in front of Maggie’s. That’s where he went down on one knee and asked his girl to be his girl forever! Unbeknownst to Amanda, Jason had arranged for Amanda’s sister to be waiting outside. Amanda’s sister began snapping pictures as Jason dropped to one knee. Amanda jokes that she talked through the whole engagement, ‘what! You are asking me to marry you, what?! I can’t believe this! Really!!?
So how fitting that we would end their engagement photo session at the place where Jason asked Amanda to be his wife. Just the night before their engagement Amanda commented about an engagement ring commercial that came on TV, pointing out a ring that caught her eye. Meanwhile Jason had a box waiting for her in T minus 18 hours he’d be asking her to marry him!
Jason picked out the ring himself and it’s a classical beauty, which matches Amanda perfectly! He’s got a favorite jewelry store where he buys for her and I have a feeling will continue to frequent throughout the rest of his life! 42~ that’s how many diamonds are in Amanda’s ring. She knows because she’s counted them all, which is half of the fun of being engaged!
When we re-enacted their proposal we drew a crowd of on lookers pretty quickly, adding to the excitement and fun of the evening! Streams of cars passing by honked in celebration of young love! A few people yelled out, ‘Say Yes!’. Someone even asked if we were shooting a scene for a movie!
This was one night Amanda and Jason will log into their bank of sweet memories forever! I wish you all the best on this grand adventure of two becoming one through this life!
