“A wife of noble character is worth more than rubies…Her children shall rise up and call her blessed.” This kept ringing through my head through our session time together as I quickly realized this is Ms. R’s legacy in the making. To watch this quietly strong and gentle mother lead her family through this session was beautiful. The respect, genuine affection and contagious laughter that spilled forth from this family was energizing. This family has rejected the ‘it’s all about me’ message our culture has passed on to our teens. They want nothing to do with the miserable and self absorbed attitude this breeds and are racing in the opposite direction in an upstream battle to model a life of gratitude.
How have Mr. & Ms. R turned this ‘all about me’ attitude on a 180? They have infused honor and service into their daily family life. Gratefulness is born from hearts not set on oneself. Their hope is that their children will not measure their worth by the things they have, but that they will find value in what they have deposited into other people’s lives.
As a family they have set out to make these deposits by serving together in a downtown mission. They’ve also discussed how their family spends money and where cuts can be made to make more deposits into the lives of people who are most often overlooked. Mr. & Ms. R’s hearts cry is that their children’s lives will be more about giving and less about getting, a lesson they’ve caught a vision for in the last few years and is sure to change the face of eternity! What a joy!
Ok, so maybe this was a private drive, and maybe the homeowner started running out to us…no worries, she was just making sure we weren’t hunters and was happy to share her driveway with us! (shew!) So worth it, my favorite shots from our time together!
20 years ago two camp counselors paths crossed over a piggy back race….the R family was born!
Laughter sprang easily from K as she cheered on her parents re-enactment. Joy found and celebrated in the family!
Jennifer: I just wanted to say what and awesome job you are doing! I pray that I am able to get there one day, and find the time to actually start trying. I love how you have kept Christ in it all…it shines through not only your words…but your work. Well done my friend 🙂 Keep up the good work!
