The Wink family welcomed me to their home for their portrait session.  The Winks and the Bowens are dear friends and when Sara saw the Bowen’s family portraits shot at their home she decided to do the same!  I love this because this is the place where our memories are made, so what more natural spot then your home to truly C A P T U R E your family!? 

This cozy home holds many special memories for Sara because it’s the same house she grew up in.  Her girls now share the same place to make their own childhood memories of running in the sprinkler, chasing their dogs, playing dolls and checking out the neighbor’s grape vines. 

There must be such nostalgia attached to Sara’s life now as a mother reliving her childhood through the eyes of her own little girls!   Her childhood memories have now married up to her adult dreams for her own girls. 

Gabby and Alex were eager for their family portrait session.   I had randomly seen the girls a few times over the weeks leading up to their family session.  One time Gabby was worried she didn’t have on the dress she had planned to wear, assuming that whenever she saw me I’d be ready to start taking her picture! 

Every time they saw me the girls would start grinning wildly and Alex would say, ‘you take my picture?’   Between the contagious grin and the blue eyes, I was smitten and eager to photograph these little sweet peas!

While photographing the family we walked the lane that leads around their home up a hill to a neighbor’s.  As we walked the lane we pretended to be princesses on parade at Disney, Tianna and Belle were my princesses d’jour to be photographed and I was collecting signatures! 

It rained for about 5 minutes during our session so we sought refuge inside.  Not one to ever waste the precious time we’re given in this life, I said, ‘ok, let’s grab a few shots of life in your home.’   This was also a great opportunity to think about possible family sessions shot in homes over the coming winter months.   I incorporated this hobby horse (which was Sara’s as a child ) for this precious shot of family life!   Never thought I’d be grateful for a little rain during a session! 

Mike is a huge Ravens fan but Sara convinced him to save the jersey for Sundays this fall when he’ll be found cheering them on!  Sara and Mike were a joy to photograph together because their affection for one another and their girls was obvious.  There was a natural ease between them as a couple.  I often tell my couples, “pretend like I’m not here” while I’m focusing on them as a couple.  You’d be surprised how many husbands are more than happy to start making out with their wives ‘for posterity’s sake’!

Winks, may your summers be full of evenings watching the sunset over your beautiful property together as a family and making memories to last a lifetime!
