When your baby wakes up at 5:00 a.m. on the day of her 1-year-old portrait session, as a mom you slightly panic.  She’ll be exhausted by her 9:30 appointment!  All your dreams of the gorgeous photos you were hoping for start to turn into visions of disaster.   You hope and pray for the best, but brace yourself for the worst.

When Cypress arrived she wanted to be held and seemed a little out of sorts.  I told mom not to worry, even if Cypress wanted to be held for most of the session we would still get beautiful portraits.  We’d be patient.  I could appreciate mom’s concerns and let her know flexibility would be key on all our parts.

Cypress began to relax and get curious about her surroundings.  It was a foam green ball that eased her into play and she quickly began to have fun.  I get the sense that her two big brothers may have something to do with that!

Mom came more prepared for this session than just about any session I’ve ever had.   After having two boys it was pretty clear mom was enjoying all the girly-girl adornments with Cypress.   I don’t think her brothers will have the slightest chance of getting a tomboy little sister in Cypress—she’s going to be all fashion and lace! 

Mom brought several adorable outfit changes.  Grandmom, who came along to the session to watch, ordered one of Cypress’s outfits from a specialty boutique.  Mom has fallen in love with the boutique clothes, but not their price tags.  So, she’s learning to sew her own which Cypress is wearing in this shot!   Way to go mom—I love your creative spirit in action!

Mom also brought one of the cutest little chairs I’ve ever seen!  She rescued this from her grandfather’s house and gave it a refinishing make over.  How cool when we can incorporate family heirlooms into portrait sessions—a sense of legacy is a really cool thing to have in the record of your life.

Speaking of legacy—this shot stuck with me.  Mom and grandmom just gushed over Cypress thru the whole session.  It’s clear how much this little girl is loved.  When grandmom put the string of pearls on Cypress I thought, this is such a timeless moment of love between a grandmom/granddaughter….

Part the way through the session Cypress’s patience for another outfit change was wearing thin—remember the 5:00 a.m. wake up!  She made it known that she wanted a drink from mom’s Starbucks Frappuccino!   What started as a sip became an all out desire to consume it all!  Can you relate!!  It’s not just us mom’s who crave that delicious goodness!  Starbucks will be happy to know they’ve got another future client!  (mom does not usually allow Cypress to have this but it was a small concession for such beautiful outcome!  In the future she’s going to have to be hiding out behind closed doors when she enjoys one of these!)

Enjoy everything there is to being one Cypress—you are a true doll baby!
