It was that time of year again, time for the DiDio annual summer carnvial to celebrate my twins birthday and family fun. This marks the 6th celebration of mayhem. The party started at 12:00 and the temperature clock at the corner said it was 98 degrees at 10:30. Yeah, it was blistering hot–so perfect day for a slip n slide!
“Everybody go on the count of three!”
Moms come with their kids and watch them race down the slip n slide, fill up on far too many make your own snowballs, and cover themselves in crazy designs at the paint table.
In between hostess duties, I randomly documented the day. My boys have so much fun looking back through these photos from previous years, I could hardly pass up this opportunity to C A P T U R E our family celebration. I also enjoy sharing the images from the day with our friends for them to enjoy with their children.
A bunch of C A P T U R E D clients, who are now friends of mine, joined our celebration with their younger children. I felt like I was looking back in time, seeing a whole phase of life that I’ve passed through and they are just starting. I was reminded of one of the truest phrases anyone’s ever shared with me re raising children: ‘at times the days will feel eternal, but the years will always fly by.’
This group of friends headed out at naptime, because 2 & 3 year olds aren’t able to make a convincing case against their need of a nap, despite their best efforts. The next phase of friends with older children joined the party after their camps let out.
The hourglass of littleboyhood is quickly vanishing and I see the dawing of young men ready to soon take its place.
Squish dodge ball.
What a patient little model for these artists! Wonder what they bribed him with?
Birthday boys with two of their best buds, both Ben’s!
Happiest Birthday to my sweet boys who did way too much work to help set up and clean up for their own party! Growing boys strong in body, mind, spirit and soul! 😉
Human skeleton paint job!
There was quite a bit of FB smack talk leading up to this day. It all centered on the previous two years of Momma slip and slide competitions. I may have helped to fuel the fires by mentioning the party would be over after I beat every single mom down the slip n slide!
Jill Jackson and I were the first to kick off the races. I figured it would just be one or two other moms joining in, but then slowly but surely other moms began appearing in swim suits. Some required a little more encouragement than others, but they all stepped up to the challenge! This is no spectator sport!
One of my favorite photos from the day—my husband and I racing down the slip n slide. We could have been doing this exact same thing 24 years ago when we started dating!
Then moms started racing their own kids down the slide….some kids got head starts! 😉
Some really cool moms who let loose for a little while to throw themselves down on the ground and race like the wind! Here’s to never acting our age & to creating memories that will have us howling with laughter at our dinner tables for years to come!
Will follow next week with a blog of recipes that were requested from the party food and more party photos posted in a FB album. 😉
