Lesley was drawn in by the romantic portraits she’d seen me do as a part of my family sessions. She wanted to celebrate the love that she and Steve share while recording their family portraits at the same time.
It’s been important to me since the start of photographing families to spend time with just mom and dad. There’s a reason all these children are here and I think that should be celebrated! Anyone with children knows how easily they trump mom and dad’s relationship. I like to go back to the roots of the family’s origin and remind mom and dad to spend some time focusing on their relationship.
The Vogel’s are an outdoors family. They are surfers, snowboarders, skiers, bikers, dancers, gardeners…the list goes on and on! So an outdoor setting was the perfect match for them. Outdoor sessions, while beautiful, can be unpredictable. Our session time ended with the skies opening up on us. Lesley told me this exact same thing happened on their wedding day!
Jaden and Dylan were great sports and helpers throughout the session. Camera just loves them too! Jaden hopes to model so she brought some practice to her portraits! Dylan brought out some of his best football moves which he gets plenty of practice at playing football for Winter’s Mill.
We resumed the tail end of our session back at the Vogel home after the rain stopped. We spent time photographing the family in their back yard where their memories are made. Lesley had a chance to show me her rainy wedding day photos too.
The Vogel backyard is a little oasis of relaxation where the family loves to hang out and enjoy time together. Ollie joined us for these portraits, much to Jaden’s delight!
It’s clear a tremendous amount of planning and attention to detail has gone in to creating this beautiful space. This little area, Charlie’s Corner, was named after Lesley’s dad who passed away 6 years ago. What a wonderful tribute to a spot specifically designed for memory making family times! Vogels, may you continue to build many wonderful memories with family and friends in your oasis!
