As parents we always want our kids to love each other and be each other’s best buds through their childhood. We have visions of them all sitting around the Thanksgiving dinner table recollecting hilarious stories from their childhood. Around our house we have an expression, “brothers forever, never to sever.” Sometimes this happens, and sometimes…well…not so much.
When bringing a baby into the home, I always remember this humerous but very true to life anaology I read years ago: Imagine that your partner puts an arm around you and says, “Honey, I love you so much, and you’re so wonderful that I’ve decided to have another wife (husband) just like you.” When the new wife (husband) finally arrives, you see that (s)he’s very young and kind of cute. When the three of you are out together, people say hello to you politely, but exclaim ecstatically over the newcomer. “Isn’t (s)he adorable! Hello sweetheart… You are precious!” Then they turn to you and ask, “How do you like the new wife (husband)?” Best explanation of sibling rilvary I’ve ever read!
C A P T U R E D moms know the great lengths I go to try and get the perfect image between their new baby and their older children. That being said, quality images between the new baby and sibling/s are some of the most challenging to shoot. They often require a great deal of patience, play and persistence to get an image I’d be happy to stamp my name to.
Jaxon was different though. He was a little older (toddlers are the toughest) and simply overjoyed about the arrival of his baby brother Brody. He walked in the door kissing Brody and that didn’t stop when the session started. He needed breaks to get up and jump around but then would go right back to nuzzling into his Brody. When he began to kiss Brody’s feet, unprompted, I knew we had a moment that Mom and Dad would treasure forever!

Mom is a huge fan of exotic animals, birds, owls, leapords….you name it! Her nursery design is a rustic whimsical owl themed room with lots of trees and branches. Grandmom hand made this gorgeous quilt to compliment the theme Ashleigh created. What a treasure! I happened to be in Jo-Max sewing machine store the other day and pulled out this image to share with the quilting ladies—they adored the quilt!
