mi familia

A portrait photographer shouldn’t have any problem making time for family portraits, right?!  Wrong.   There’s some expression about the shoe maker’s kids go barefoot….yeah I get it!  The crazy schedules that have ensued from both my husband and I starting our own businesses in the last 2 years has made planning full family activities a real challenge.  There’s a lot of unpredictablity in our schedules.  So, I knew I had to get creative if I wanted to take a break from recording what all my clients cherish and focus on what I most cherish!

Literally one day before this session my husband Chris and I realized we would all be home for 1/2 a day and our boys had an early dismissal.  To top it off my wonderful assistant Hayley was available!  Then the piece d’resistance was Jill Jackson was available for styling services!   Jill will be joining the C A P T U R E D team this winter to provide styling services for clients who are interested in her services!  After the first of the year she will be building her portfolio so  C A P T U R E D clients who have glamour/boudoir sessions in January and February will receive complimentary styling services as a part of their  C A P T U R E D  package!

I took advantage of this time to help train my assistant Hayley.  Clearly this was a high pressure situation for her but I assured her I would work with her the whole time to set scenes, lights, exposure, etc and then she would take over with her great eye and nail focus for us!  She did an incredible job!

Hayley got to learn that keeping 3 boys in place goes the same whether they are photographers kids or not!

Over the years I have photographed my husband with our boys pretty extensively.  What’s been conspicuoulsly absent in our albums and on our walls are beautiful images of me with my boys.   I knew this session was going to have a marked focus on the tender moments between this Momma & her boys that has largely passed unrecorded!

We did this same thing on our first date almost 25 years ago!!

My boys and I have spent a lot of time over the years studying God’s Word together.  God has taught us so much about what it means to know Him, to reach into the lives of people around us with His love and to ultimately lead grateful giving lives instead of greed grumpy ones!  So this image and the next one speak volumes to the heart of this Momma!

To close out our session time Hayley and I wanted to spend a few minutes shooting a few of the glamour style images that have grown very popular with my clients.  I MUCH prefer to be on the shooting end but I knew it was important to my husband to have beautiful images of his Punkin like he has seen me create for so many women.

So now C A P T U R E D fans have gotten a little peak inside my sweet family!  Thank you to Hayley and Jill for their magnificent contributions to pull this off!   This winter I will be celebrating two years since I launched C A P T U R E D and am working with designers and mentors to make some changes that will allow me to spend more time with the people that are most important to me in life while still providing excellent service to my clients.  Look for some exciting changes coming up this winter!

Yay!!! Happy for you. Totally get the challenge of not being able to make the time. I think that's why I often find myself wishing we had better lighting;) Think my faves are the one with you and Tad and the one with you walking down the hill. There, of course, is a special bond with each child, but there is always something a little different with our first. That photo captures that:) Beautiful.xoxo
