Cru 9.0

Cru, or as I like to call him, my little smile machine, was back for his 9 month milestone marker.  We decided to venture out of studio for this one to capture an element that’s near and dear to Daddy’s heart–the C.J. Miller Asphalt plant his family owns and operates.

Buck, (Billy, CJ’s and Lisa’s dad), passed away coming up on three years ago this fall.   His absence is sorely felt.  The brothers and their sister have been at the helm of C.J. Miller LLC for the last 10 years, taking over leadership of the business their Dad began in 1959.  Family legacy is so important, where we come from often helps to guide us to where we are going in this life.  Cru will know of his Grandad from the stories he’ll grow up hearing and the photos that tell their combined story.  Within this shoot, I wanted to see the intimate connection between these boys and men that went beyond the physical shooting space.   Billy landed on the perfect addition—his Dad’s hard hat.   Could it have been anymore perfect that Cru hugged it?

To match the grit of an asphalt plant I wanted an old school nostalgic feel to the black and whites, a bit of departure from how I typically process my black and whites…loving it for this shoot.  Cru was fascinated by the little rocks and the working of the asphalt plant.  Likely runs in his blood…;)

Cru, I see you are taking up more and more space on Momma as your year has progressed…next is the big first year celebration!  Slow down a bit baby boy, Momma wants to always remember how you feel nestled into her arms.
