Lindsay & Riley

Sometimes a beautiful farm girl surprises everyone by doing something that even surprises herself.  Lindsay decided to step into the creative waters with me and preserve this fleeting time of her last maternity season.  And by last season, I mean this is her last baby and she is only 3 weeks away from her due date here!  We joked she’s the appearance of a snake’s thats swallowed a watermelon!  This baby will be welcomed by three siblings who are eagerly awaiting her appearance and the promise that new life brings.  Life and joy is the very things Lindsay wants to be celebrated with this baby girl’s birth.

They say that time heals all wounds…but some wounds feel as fresh five years later as the day of their first cut.  Lindsay’s brother-in-law Tommy lost his life unexpectedly in a farming accident almost 5 years ago.  His loss is still acutely felt within the family that lives and breathes the fertile farm life Carroll County is known for.  Not a day goes by that Tommy’s presence is not missed on Dell Brothers Farm.

Adding Riley to the portrait time was a last minute decision.  Riley is wearing her TFD tattoo that was left over from the fair.  All the 4-H’ers sported them in support of the Dells.  Lindsay wanted Riley to wash it off when it started peeling, but Riley resisted…turns out Lindsey realized she actually wanted it to remain just as much as Riley did…so, there it was the day of the shoot in all its tattered beauty.  The last 5 years have proved a challenge in many ways for the Dell family.  Little decisions, like when to remove a tattoo that holds more meaning than most would suspect, is just one of those challenges.

So Lindsay decided adding one more baby to their sweet family, would bring a celebration of life to the whole Dell family.   A sweet little girl that they can join together to celebrate, smile and laugh over.  A little girl who will be raised to embrace life like the uncle she’ll come to know through stories repeated over picnic tables full of fresh picked corn on the cob and steamed crabs.  She’ll be the first Dell that Tommy won’t be here to greet, but his memory lives on in all who loved him and celebrate life as he did.  So we celebrate with you Lindsay and welcome your baby girl in just one week!!!
