Saturday was Rock for Jake, a super fun family carnival/rock concert day sponsored by the Jake Offutt foundation. Joe and Leah have committed themselves to help keep Jake’s memory alive by paying it forward as a thank you to all the folks who partnered with them through his cancer treatment. Leah and Joe have embraced the warrior within themselves as they seek to find a new normal for their daily lives without their Jake. There’s not a day that goes by that his memory doesn’t invade them with a mixture of sorrow, joy, sadness and laughter.
The day was super windy and intermittent rain storms made some elements a challenge to keep going, but many, many hands persevered to make the event a lot of fun for the participants. Perhaps the most beautiful element of all, was watching the pouring out of love from all those who love the Offutt’s…I stood by in awe, watching teams of volunteers all scurrying about, working very hard to cash out silent auctions bids, hold down canopies, serve food, make balloon animals, set up, tear down, etc. It was a beautiful display of love for a family who is so very loved and valiantly showing us what it means to hold onto faith when we walk through our darkest hour. Enjoy scrolling through a few snippets from the day and look for this event again next year!
