JDP senior Dylan

Wow, do I get interesting clients before my lens and oh how that fuels my creative process!  JDP senior Dylan almost didn’t have senior portraits created.  It was actually his grandmom who researched and found my studio to help his dad navigate this foreign territory.  It wasn’t on either he or his dad’s radar, which is to be expected.  Most often it’s the women in our lives who keep portrait traditions alive generation to generation.  Click here to contact us about your own custom portraits.

Dylan didn’t want to disappoint his grandmom because he loves her so much, so he got on board.  Awe!  Thanks Grandmom for sending this cool kid my way!  Dylan loves learning about new things in life and getting outside his comfort zone.  He loves being around people who are different from him and who challenge him.  Crazily enough, when it comes to music, he’s a talented guitarist, but what intrigues him more is music theory.  He’s intrigued by the ways we can express our self through music, uniquely and understanding theory enables him to uniquely do so.

So what makes Dylan so intriguing?  He’s the kind of kid you can talk with about just about anything in life because he’s an avid learner.  To start with, he’s teaching himself Russian!  His goal is to get fluent and then then add Ukranian and Arabic to the list.  This all started when playing PS4 with some friends who spoke Russian.  He didn’t like that he wasn’t able to understand them when they’d speak in Russian.  And thus began his quest to be multi-lingual.

Dylan has plans for a career in the military.  Following in his dad, Jonathan’s, footsteps.  These two share a special father son bond that’s often elusive to many dads.  It’s very sweet to watch them interact.  Jonathan was part of a bomb diffusion squad in Afghanistan and Bosnia 20 years ago.  Dylan’s goal is to become a member of the Special Forces 10th group.  From what I’ve met of him, the discipline and focus I see will make him a wonderful addition to our armed forces.

Dylan has trained in martial arts for years and the discipline and focus that has helped to grow in him has become an asset in everything he lays his hands to.  He takes physical conditioning very seriously.  He pretty much lives on the pull up bar to develop the strength seen here.

Below was grabbed incidentally when I asked Dylan to warm up prior to creating the strength portraits.  I was busy setting up lights in studio when I happened to look over and see this!  He reminded me of the action figures my brother used to play with when we were little!

Dylan just began wrestling last year as a junior and was voted best wrestler in the county and best new wrestler.  He wrestled a state champ in his first year!  Dad jokes that when he takes off his shirt, a big part of the match has already been won when his opponent sees him.  Dylan’s coach said he is the most ruthless wrestler he’s ever met and has named him team captain this year.

We’ve really just scratched the surface of who Dylan is here.  He is also concurrently enrolled in college classes and working on creating a clothing line with a friend in entrepreneurial class.  His goal is to reverse engineer clothing and try to create better versions via surveys done at clothing stores in Columbia Mall.  He shared the Jerry Rice wisdom with me, “We will do the things that others won’t, so tomorrow we can do the things others can’t.”  Go get ’em Dylan!  The world needs more innovators with laser focus and discipline like yourself!
