Olivia started dancing when she was just 3 years old and remembers crying on stage at her first performance. Who knew that little ballerina would go on to be such an accomplished dancer at 18?

Olivia had a series of wonderful teachers who were patient and encouraging and helped to instill the love of dance in her.

Olivia is trained in most forms of dance but modern and ballet are where she spends most of her training. Contemporary is her true love, but her school does not offer it so she pursues it on her own.

This summer Olivia will attend a contemporary dance intensive where she’s looking forward to the skills she’ll add to her repertoire.

It was cool to discuss the differences between modern and contemporary dance with Olivia who has studied all this pretty extensively. Olivia loves to be a storyteller with her movement which brings the viewer in and energizes her in dance.

Olivia is just as adorable as she is beautiful. This girl will keep you guessing at every turn. When we started her modern segment I encouraged her to play some dance music that would inspire her. Lo and behold she put Led Zepplin on! Go figure! I never would have guessed that!

When I told her how shocked I was not to here some Beyonce for her dance, Olivia told me that doesn’t inspire movement in her like Led Zepplin does!

Olivia’s love of classic rock comes from her dad, who also inspired her to take up guitar. She’s in love with playing guitar and most forms of music. Her playlist during her session ranged from Zepplin, to Beatles, to Winehouse to Soundgarden. I love it when I have no idea what’s coming next on a playlist!

While ballet is not Olivia’s favorite, she recognizes the discipline of it has been foundational for all forms of dance she pursues. She’s grateful for the training she’s received that’s helped develop her into the dancer she is today.

Although it’s winter, Olivia wanted to create portraits outside for a bit. This poor little thing was shivering something fierce the whole time…although you’d never know it to see her here! Her teeth didn’t stop chattering until long after we came inside!

Olivia is such a delight of a young woman to do life with! Her eyes exude a kindness and marked curiosity for all the world has to offer this creative soul! Olivia’s early life was marked with tragedy when her twin brother Jonah died suddenly at just 3 years old. This could have created a bitterness in her soul but instead she has chosen to honor life and Jonah’s by making the most of every opportunity placed before her. And oh what a blessing that is to sooo many! I wish you all the best dear one!
