JDP senior Jameson

Meet JDP senior Jameson, a woman on a mission! I’ve known Jameson for several years and have loved watching her grow into the delightful young woman who has overcome adversity to springboard her to her next phase of life. She’s thoughtful and introspective with a silly side that keeps you smiling when you spend time with her.

If you’ve watched Jameson grow up, then you’ve seen her compete on just about all the athletic fields out there. She’s played basketball, field hockey and lacrosse. She picked up her love of lacrosse from her brother, former JDP senior Justin who is playing in college today. Throwing a ball around with him in the yard made her feel like it was the right thing to do to take it up for herself as well.

Basketball has been Jameson’s main love for most of her life. A big part of that was her grandfather coaching her through most of her childhood. He was instrumental in building the work ethic she’s know for that’s best described as beast workhorse. Jameson is a leader and force to be reckoned with on the court.

Jameson cherishes the time spent growing her into the woman she is today with her granddad. Whether he was coaching her, reffing her games or their special time driving back and forth to practice talking about nothing and everything all at the same time.

There’s been a lot of question for Jameson re her next steps athletically. She’s been offered a lacrosse scholarship; however, she’s had a lot of time to think about what next steps are best for her after facing injury this winter. In December, the start of basketball season she tore her knee up which resulted in surgery to rebuild it. This sidelined her for her senior year basketball and lacrosse season.

She’s had a lot of time to think about where she’s going in life. She knows that to Wingate University in Charlotte, NC. She has plans to be a pre-med major with the ultimate goal to become an anesthesiologist.

Jameson’s felt pulled to become a doctor for a long time. Her interest is partially due to watching her mom Kristy recover from two serious car accidents which required brain surgery to repair damage from the accident.

Jameson’s mom Kristy fell in love with the above portrait and was trying to place what it was reminding her of, when it suddenly hit her during the view and choose: the Mona Lisa. Wow…nailed it Kristy!

Jameson is wired up to be all or nothing. Ultimately she’s ready to pour her focus and energy into pursuing her medical degree. She’s ready to do this without trying to split time between a demanding college athletics program and a high demand pre-med major.

It’s clear she’s put a lot of thought into this and is feeling some relief from having made her decision. She’s ready to find out more about who she is apart from the strong athlete everyone’s always known her as.
