Most moms will be able to relate to Lakisha’s story–you are the ones always behind the camera, rarely ever appearing in front of the lens. Lakisha has just turned 50 and after following my work for years she knew it was her turn.

Lakisha’s life is busy with family and full time work with the IRS. This has meant she lay aside her part time past work in photography and really all of her artistic endeavors. Lakisha paints still lifes, portraits, landscapes in oils, pastels, watercolor and ink dots. Being an only child it was easy for her to get lost in art projects that satisfied her creative soul.

Being an only child, Lakisha learned that it was easy for her to spend time with herself and this gave her the outlet for creation that she carried with her into adulthood. All her art supplied were packed up as demands of family and career mounted.
She has plans to reinvigorate this side of herself when her girls are a little older. She mentioned that her transition into creating fine art was home for her and that home is calling to her again. Some people make plans, but never move beyond discussion of them. That is not Lakisha.

Lakisha studied at American Univeristy as a public policy major. She interned with the federal bureau of prisons as the first step in hoping to work in 4 federal agencies. She stopped at her third agency, the IRS because it was the first one that allowed her to practically apply her college education to real world scenarios.
As a young woman, Lakisha was meeting with the commissioner of the IRS for policy talk and she loved it. There’s nothing mundane about her job and things are constantly changing, keeping her sharp and on her toes. Initially Lakisha aspired to a career in law after she did some pro bono work with the courts; however, the IRS allowed for more work/life balance and won out for her.
(We had to explore a creative artist approach for this artisan!)
Lakisha is the kidn of woman who gives it all in one direction and her employer has loved that about her so much, she’s always been able to work from home. Her girls have never not had their mom at home so she’s had the best of both worlds familially and professionally.

As Lakisha’s girls are getting older, she recognizes that some pieces of her life that have been on hold will emerge again. You’ll find her and her husband traveling to Paris and and exploring Italy. (When everyone else was taking Spanish in high school, she was taking French!) She’s ready to sit at the outdoor cafes and lose track of time while she paints. She’s ready to immerse herself in the culture and find inspiration for her art that feels like breathing to her soul.
It was such a joy to create for you and with you Lakisha! You are entering your 50th with a passion and drive to explore this life and embrace it for all that inspires and challenges you! May you continue to chase your dreams and make sure you are recorded in the story of your family!
