JDP senior Emma

Meet JDP senior Emma who is an artist through and through. She envisions and then she creates. She and her mom have seen our JDP senior mall wall display for years and Emma began to cast her own visions.

Emma is an old soul as well who I could easily picture during the Renaissance. She’s been doing online school for years which allows her the flexibility to take more art classes than a typical traditional school day would allow. She has a private art teacher, Carolyn Quinn, who she has worked with since 2019. Carolyn encourages Emma’s creativity and helps her hone her skills every step of the way.

Wherever Emma goes, her BFF Raven is sure to be there! He’s a 13 year old Shih Tzu who is just as in love with Emma as Emma is with her.

When Emma is creating, most often it will be with watercolors. She loves the speed of it and the ability to work over a mistake and turn it into a magical element of the creation.

When she’s watercolor painting, it may be with a brush or even a straw to blow the paint onto the canvas, or dropping out tiny drops. And side note–both Emma and I absolutely love dandelions when they are in their first blooms!!

One night, Emma’s mom Marcy heard Emma banging around the kitchen and knew she was up to creating something. She found her making paper mache and melting hot glue glitter. Gradually, more and more of their home has become Emma’s creating spaces.

Emma’s interest in rocks and fossils from all ages has led her to consider a future career in paleontology. Her love of history combined with fossil hunts took her family to a NY quarry to hunt for fossils. She emerged victorious with a bucketful of treasures she was able to take home. Her spinosaurus tooth is one of her prized possessions.

Emma collects vintage cameras as well. She is particularly drawn to the old film feel of portraits of old. I love when we are able to create a set using items of sentiment for our JDP seniors!

Raven is an absolute snuggle bug! He climbed into my lap several times while I was working at my camera stand and just curled up to relax and watch his girl!

Emma you were such a delight to create for! May the artist spirit that lives within you continue to grow and flourish, bringing you delight all the days of your life!
