JDP senior Mabry

Occasionally JDP seniors have a very distinct vision for their futures. They are eyes on the prize that lies ahead of them and in motion to bring their dreams to life. Tough thing for a 17 year old to do! JDP senior Mabry is one of those seniors.

Mabry has a vision for a custom bakery she’ll own one day that will have a unique flare she’s keeping under a very guarded lock and key. She’s enrolled in the Culinary Arts program with a specific focus on pastry arts. Here’s where she’s whetting her teeth on crafting delectable baked goods. Hers dazzle the eye while simultaneously feeding the masses at large events.

Mabry has a top secret notebook she’s been recording her unique ideas in for years now. In fact, during our planning meeting (where ideas were flying like whirling dervishes), she got a spark of an idea. There’s just something about a room full of creatives–the energy is palpable and the sky’s the limit.

In fact, Mabry and her mom mentioned how their previous portrait time a few years ago as the introduction to my studio, had them marveling at the customization throughout the whole process. This has influenced her own planning process for her future bakery. Just one reason why the arts are sooo important as well as creative collaborations! She has plans to hang some of the pieces you saw at the start of the blog with her vintage suitcases in her bakery. Something tells me her mom and grandmom will be working alongside her there!

If Mabry’s not baking, she’s likely at rehearsal for one of the many major productions she’s been a part of. Maleficent, Willy Wonka, Mean Girls, Chicago, Seussical, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins are just a few of the productions she’s acted in.

The amount of time to pull off these shows with excellence is no joke. Mabry joked that at the end of the day she felt like she was selling her soul to learn the dances for Chicago. The choreographer always makes it very clear, from the first rehearsal, “GIVE ME YOUR SOULSSSS!”

Mabry’s got a heart of gold, but she loves embracing the villainous characters in shows. There’s nothing that excites her as much as dramatically walking in to drop a fierce speech and then walking off stage as though nothing happened. She may or may not peak from behind stage in delight at the dropped jaws of the audience! Fuel for her actress fire!

Mabry is enchanted by every part of the dramatic process: the story lines, the costuming, the composing, the culture significance of the pieces, it all enthralls her. She is a theatre girl through and through!

During our planning meeting and wardrobe try on, Mabry concocted her outfit that is a nod to Chicago. When our stylist Stacy asked what she was doing with the feather cape, she had no idea Mabry intended to wear it as a skirt. But Mabry informed Stacy, “Hold on, I’m cookin'” as she created the look from scratch!

Mabry has loved roller skating for years! She’s got some pretty impressive moves whizzing around our lower level studio!

Mabry’s mom and dad have made sure Mabry has a copy of each of the scripts from the productions she’s been in. We featured those in one of her portraits…ohhhhh the memories this will bring flooding back to Mabry!

Mabry’s mom and dad and grandmom were at her view and choose to select portraits for print. The tender love and cheering on that Mabry has in her life is phenomenal! Mabry’s grandmom is the one who actually found my portrait services years ago after seeing a large piece of wall art in a client’s home. Her first career was as a full time photographer as well. She appreciated the wall art so much she asked who created it. Then she immediately purchased a gift certificate for Mabry’s family to come for portraits.

Well, to say I was smiling throughout each step of the portrait creation process with Mabry is probably an understatement! The dramatic flare she has, coupled with the energy and joy that permeates everything she does, is just contagious! What a delight you are Mabry and I cannot wait to visit your bakery one day and order a tiramisu!
