When your world turns upside down with the loss of your husband many friends will surround you. They will bring you meals. They will hold you while you weep. They will pray with you and for you. They will send cards. They will mow your lawn.
But ultimately, as the weeks wear on, they have their lives to return to. After some time, the cards stop because there are practices to attend, dinners to be made, bills to be paid, cars to be repaired, kids to go to the doctors…. So when you find yourself desperate to return to your own normal life, but find there’s nothing normal about it, you wonder where to turn.
For Suzie, that place to turn was her Mom. Her Mom was her rock through her childhood and now has become her best friend. They share a love for the Lord that has taught them they can bear the burdens of this life with the full assurance that He will make all things new. They rest in the peace that He is the lover of their souls.
While others may say, ‘thinking of you’, Suzie knows her Mom faithfully prays for her and feels the strength these prayers provide. Suzie and Willie are both well aware that God is really the only one to heal these wounds left in the wake of Kevin’s death. Willie’s heart for the Lord has been a source of strength for Suzie to draw from at times when there just didn’t seem to be strength to make it through the day.
Willie’s model of perseverance has been a constant source of encouragement for Suzie. She is also encouraged by her mother’s laughter and hysterical sense of humor. There’s quite a bit of healing found in laughter and Willie is happy to provide! Willie’s own life has been a model of the great business God is in of redeeming His loved ones and this is not lost on Suzie for one minute!
Willie bought a house in Maryland after Kevin died. She saw her daughter, widowed with 6 children and knew exactly where she needed to be. Willie travels between Maryland and Florida and Suzie knows her Mom is always only a phone call away. That’s the heart of a mother and it was celebrated on this day in a mini-mother-daughter session! May the two of you continue to provide strength, laughter, wisdom and encouragement to each other!
ps–this mother daughter session was missing just one thing…little sister Jennifer 🙁 …may just be a whole group family session in the future when Jennifer’s in town with her family!
