Sometimes it’s the littlest things that come from out of nowhere that wreck you as a mom, bringing you to unexpected tears of gratitude and joy. For Nikki, that was preparing for annual fall family portraits while dressing the little girl she didn’t think she would ever have. Getting Gianna into her tights and Mary Janes was the unexpected moment that flooded Nikki with gratitude. As moms, listening to our hearts when they stop us in gratitude for our blessings—-therein lies the sweetest moments of life.
The Koch family had one day for me to capture their beautiful family. Between Sam’s Ravens football schedule and Ryan’s high school football schedule, Nikki knew she had one day regardless of weather and trusted me to capture the beauty of her family indoors or out. On the football note, if you’d like to join us in cheering on Sam for the Pro Bowl, you can vote for him here.
I knew with Maryland falls there was a good chance we’d be indoors for their session without any chance of a reschedule. Well, the day of their shoot it was 25 degrees and snowing and raining on a horrible grey day. So, we were prepared for an indoor session, which would be quite a departure from our tradition of outdoors. We definitely hit a sweet spot with the whole family on this one and brought the vision for traditional portraits Nikki had to life while also creating some signature pieces.
In studio offered opportunities to create a variety of moods with lighting that I thoroughly enjoyed with the Kochs. Coolest part of our whole session though, was seeing how all four of her boys are just head over heels over Gianna. They can’t get enough of that little sweet pea! Look for Gianna in an upcoming first year portrait session! Always a blast with you guys and I look forward to seeing all the love and laughter these portraits will remind you of in your home!
