Her friends and team mates know her for her passion for basketball. But there’s so much more to this girl with the shy smile who is a force to be reckoned with on the court. JDP senior Brooke embraced the creative process to create a capstone portrait collection to mark this time in her life.
Brooke’s been playing basketball and soccer since she was 5. Her love of the sports translated into a greater commitment and desire to advance her skills by joining travel/club programs. She began playing for Central Maryland Attitude in the 4th grade and has just wrapped up her last year in the program. This program is designed to set the girls on a track for strong college playing possibilities. Brooke credits her time in the program as the best time of her life. The bonds she developed with the girls had them all in tears knowing they just wrapped up their last tournament together.
Brooke’s team was able to win 2nd place in the national tournament, not once, but twice! One year they were ranked 13th in the nation overall! Naturally basketball was going to be featured in Brooke’s portraits. How cool to have this collection after the thousands of hours she’s poured into growing her skills and competing through out her life.
Brooke also played soccer in highschool and was pulled up to varsity in her freshman year! Her junior year she was named captain of her basketball team. The desire to excel burns strongly in her quiet heart. Unfortunately, Brooke is currently sidelined from soccer due to an injury that she hopes will be resolving soon.
Brooke also swam competitively for years but basketball training conflicted with her continuing so she had to stop for a time. Brooke’s team color was red so she chose a red dress to create underwater portraits since her dad misses watching her swim competitions. (does the first portrait below remind you of anyone famous? I’m seeing Cindy Crawford!)
Lastly, this golden haired beauty indulged my creative mo-jo to allow me to create a dress right onto her from a design I worked up the night before while wrapping up the planning for her shoot. So feeling a Renaissance/Maid Marian vibe here…I take inspiration from the written word for portrait ideas…here’s an expert from the English legend of Robin Hood: “Robin gazed at her, entranced; her face was the loveliest he had ever seen, and he thought she must be a princess. But the longer he looked at her, the more he could see that this woman had not even one touch of false pride, and that she held her bow and quiver as if she had been born to hunt.”
