JDP senior Kate is an artist, in every sense of the word. She quite simply gets lost in the world of creating and everything around her becomes a fusion of white noise that’s easily tuned out. Watching an artist become so engrossed in their craft is incredible to watch from the outside looking in. I’m familiar with what’s going on in her mind during the process, but being an observer is different. I’ve noticed that musicians and athletes all have their ‘game’ faces. When they are doing their thing, an intensity overtakes them that is pretty awe inspiring to watch. We usually need to modify ‘game face’ for portrait, but it’s crazy that every musician & athlete I’ve worked with has one!
It was important to Kate to include her trusty side-kick Russel for portrait creation. He was game to play along and follow his best friend Kate around through the whole session. Russel is a rescue dog who has brought so much joy and excitement to the Tye family in the last few years!
He even obliged wearing a bow tie at one point for us!
Kate takes piano with Shoko and in addition to growing in her playing ability, she studies music theory and composition. She chose a very complicated piece to play for me the day of her shoot and just got lost in the beautiful world of music as she did! Russel was pretty good at bringing her back with his begging for attention! 😉
Kate is a member of NAHS, National Arts Honor Society. Her art work takes the form of cartooning, pencil, graphic design and illustrative. She has even designed CD covers for other musicians. She draws inspiration everywhere but is especially fond of Olan Rogers who is a TV creator, writer, comedian and actor.
Kate, you are a kind soul who creates what pours out of your heart. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for your creative self! May it be filled with the work of your hands and lots of furry snuggles!
