JDP senior Jack has a serious love of movies and one in particular came up as we were wrapping up his planning meeting for the session. He was literally walking out the door when the idea dawned on him, “Can we create a segment like Tyler Durden?” ( aka, Brad Pitt in the movie Fight Club.)

I was intrigued immediately! Jack’s mom was just as excited about this prospect as well. Love of movies is something they clearly share. Jack figured his job at the Goodwill should help him gather the wardrobe items he’d need to pull off the look.

The Goodwill part of this venture didn’t pan out as Jack had hoped; however, we had the perfect fur coat from a client donation a few years ago. (a lot of old fur coats and wedding gowns make their way here:))

Initially the plan had been to create the Fight Club inspiration in studio, but then as we chatted Jack pulled out a t-shirt with “Need money for Porsche” scribbled on it. I asked him if he wanted to include a Porsche in his portraits. And so began the unexpected addition of the first segment in this blog!

It was clear to me quickly that Jack preferred a grungier vibe for his portrait collection. As we collaboratively worked on these setups, I knew Jack’s collection was going to have a unique feel! The cinematic feel in our pole barn ended up being one of Jack and his mom’s very favorite sets from the creating day.

I laughed that we had the session planned and then the whole Porsche setup was inspired impromptu by one of his own elements that came out the day of the session. I always remind clients that we will always plan and be prepared, but hold the plan loosely so we don’t miss the magic that’s around the corner waiting for us!

Jack is a ‘hands on’ kind of guy. He loves putting things together and building. He’s currently in the Career Tech carpentry program. He’s taking after his dad in his love of carpentry. This fall he’ll be pursuing exercise science in college.

Jack is awesome at working with children as well. He has twins brothers and a toddler sister so he gets plenty of practice at home! But he has also worked at Camp Hashawa as a counselor and at a camp for children who have experienced trauma. He enjoys connecting with the kids through silliness and encouraging them to see their own special talents.

Jack’s pursuit of fitness goals is something he takes very seriously. Lifting is his favorite part of the day, 6 days a week, between 1-2 hours. When he was a kid he dreamed of becoming a bodybuilder and was inspired by lifters like Tom Platts from the ’70s.
