JDP senior Sofia has been anticipating her senior portrait experience since her sister JDP senior Cassandra was here a few years ago. She had visions of exquisite beauty bouncing around in her brain, which was so inspiring for me as we chatted in her pre consult planning meeting!

When the excitement is palpable, I know a creator’s paradise awaits me in the creating rooms! And that it did! Sofia reveled in the gowns as she decided what she wanted to wear from studio wardrobe.
Sometimes when I am creating I see visions of what could be pulled right out of a film…and that’s exactly what happened in the above and below creation!

Sofia is interested in fashion and currently is studying it at Career Tech. She’s hoping to pursue a fashion and merchandising degree in college. Along with this interest, she loves makeup. When she mentioned she made herself into a doe, I suggested we start her session with that look and then my stylist Jill could remove it before she began her hair and make up. Sofia–I’m so glad you were game! What a unique and interesting way to begin our portrait time!!

Sofia’s first love is color guard where she’s a member of the marching band at Liberty High. She loves the dance, the storytelling, the costuming–all of it! She has a great love for music, but does not play instruments. Instead she is moved into motion by music and is fascinated by the story that can be told with flags whipping through the air and dance combined in a hypnotic rhythm.

Sofia loves to paint as well and has created floral scenes…so we laid her in a bed of flowers to lock her down as a work of art as well.
Sofia sprung to life when it was time to dance in her gowns. Her joy radiated from within and made us all smile as well.
And she can bring the sass with the best of them! Mom knows this expression well! She cherishes all the ways that we have locked her girls down in portrait so unique to each of their personalities. She told me the portraits I created of her girls together as a surprise for Mother’s Day a few years ago was the best Mother’s Day gift she’s received in 21 years!

Sofia thinks nothing of throwing this heavy flag, which she’s accustomed to doing at practices in the blistering Maryland summer sun, for hours. She’s equally undaunted by the sword that accompanies her routines as well. Whipping that thing into the air with passion and accomplished skill married together beautifully.
