JDP senior Emily

Watching clients grow up before my eyes is a wondrous thing. I met JDP senior Emily when she was just 13 for a JDP jr. session. Her sweet mom likes to mark their big celebrations in meaningful ways, so she booked a portrait time for Emily. Then she did so again for Emily’s sweet 16. Now here we are as Emily is preparing to graduate from high school.

As we planned her sweet 16, we had her JDP senior experience in mind as well. I have never been one to be lacking when it comes to ideas. Eyes wide open to all the potential around me! We knew for her senior session we’d venture downtown for an urban feel and who knew we’d get a bit of moonlight as well!

Emily brought ideas with her as well. Don’t worry, her inspiration above and below had a spotter the whole time and the city was like a ghost town that night so no traffic.

JDP senior Emily’s mom has served in the military and taught for years at the Naval Academy. So she was excited by the patriotic tribute this portrait allowed for.

Emily was excited to work with the powder for a dynamic portrait like above. We are always happy to create with this…outdoors (as we learned the hard way after the first time in our lower level studio!).

Emily’s sweet and gentle nature is so apparent in her portrait collection.

But I love that she’s not afraid to express a full range of mood and emotions that compel the viewer to engage in a thoughtful way. Emily’s a creative and her artist soul is eyes wide open to this life.

Emily’s recently started playing golf for her high school, much to her dad’s delight.

This sweet girl has just earned her Girl Scout Gold Award for redoing the garden beds at her church. Earning the Gold Award is the equivalent to the Eagle Scout. Emily is very close to her mom who has led her troop since the first grade. The troop has 10 girls in and 6 of them have been together since the start!

Girl Scouts has taught Emily so much about her relationships. She grew close to girls she didn’t think she would have apart from their bonding in Scouts. They joke that their troop is the Beverly Hills troop because of their glamping experiences! No roughing it for this troop–they like to make their memories together in style! While they love the luxury they also have given back with participation in events like Wreaths Across America.

JDP senior Emily’s next steps post graduation will involve college with likley a business major with the goal to be a business teacher in her future. She’s getting a little behind the scenes restaurant business exposure at her job preparing salads and desserts for patrons.
